THE UNIQUENESS OF HOSPICE

Hospice is a medically directed program of palliative and supportive care which is provided by an interdisciplinary team of medical and non-medical volunteers under a central administration.

Medical care is under the direction of the patients primary physician.

The Hospice Medical Directors provide consultation and back-up services for the Hospice Team and patient's personal physician.

Hospice nurses asses the patient's condition, teach the caregivers and help with management of pain and symptom control. Nurses are on call 24 hours a day.

Home Health Aides assist with bathing and personal care.

Social Workers help identify and resolve problems, coordinate resources, and provide counseling.

Trained volunteers provide emotional support, help with tasks and offer brief periods of relief for the caregiver.

Bereavement counseling and support group is available to the family members before and up to a year after the death.
